Billing Director

Permanent employee, Full-time · US, Remote
130,000 - 160,000 $ per year
Job Summary

We are looking for a Billing Director to take ownership of Cyted’s billing and revenue cycle operations at a time of significant growth and momentum. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape and scale the infrastructure behind our commercial engine. You will ensure every aspect of our billing, from patient intake to claims reimbursement, is accurate, compliant, and built to support the delivery of innovative diagnostics like our flagship EndoSign test and next-generation molecular products.

You will be the driving force behind a billing function that matches the pace and ambition of the company. Working in close partnership with our external Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) provider, you will oversee pre-billing verification, payer-specific requirements, claims workflows, denials, and appeals. You’ll lead the day-to-day relationship with the RCM while embedding scalable, efficient processes that unlock faster, more predictable revenue realisation.

This is a hands-on role where you will build systems, not just manage them. You will develop clear, effective SOPs for claims processing, align our internal workflows with payer expectations, and ensure the RCM has the training and clinical insight needed to operate at a high level. You will also act as the key escalation point for billing issues with referring providers, whether that’s a missing diagnosis code, a demographic correction, or insurance verification query.

You will monitor performance daily, manage reporting, and lead continuous improvement efforts across the revenue cycle. From managing authorisations and appeals to identifying bottlenecks and driving resolution, your work will directly impact Cyted’s financial performance and how we are experienced by patients, providers, and partners.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and is energised by building from the ground up. You bring a strong background in healthcare or diagnostic billing, a sharp eye for process, and the ability to execute while thinking several steps ahead. At Cyted, we’re transforming early detection, and we need a Billing Director who’s ready to build the systems that power that mission, end to end.

Working Pattern and Location

The role is a full-time position, working remotely from home office, located within reasonable distance of our RCM in Pennsylvania.

The role holder will be required to work flexibly including travel and some weekend commitments.

The Billing Director will need to visit company sites when required, both nationally and internationally.

What you will be doing
1. Revenue Cycle Management Oversight:
  • Build and lead a trusted relationship with our external Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) provider, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs), quality standards, and financial targets are met.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all outsourced billing operations, from claims and collections to payment posting.
  • Oversee implementation and drive continuous improvement across RCM processes, ensuring they evolve with our growth and payer expectations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and performance reports to ensure transparency and accountability, and troubleshoot any service issues.
  • Provide strategic and tactical resource needs assessments during RCM onboarding to ensure timely cash realization.
  • Manage day-to-day coordination with the RCM partner, including prior authorizations, denials and appeals, reporting, and follow-up on unresolved claims.
2. Billing Operations Leadership:
  • Take full ownership of our internal billing lifecycle—from order verification through to claims submission - alongside the RCM partner.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing of laboratory services to commercial insurers and CMS (Medicare/Medicaid).
  • Continuously optimize our internal billing workflows to ensure they’re scalable, clean, and aligned with compliance needs.
  • Align our internal billing workflows with the RCM provider and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for claims processing.
  • Provide training and supply required documentation to the RCM to support accurate billing and timely claims appeals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving requisition issues, insurance verification problems, and data gaps such as patient demographics and diagnosis codes with referring providers.
3. Pre-Billing Verification and Compliance:
  • Lead the front-end process: test verification, insurance validation, and prior authorization workflows.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation such as medical necessity forms, Letters of Medical Necessity (LOMN), diagnosis codes, and physician signatures.
  • Partner with physician offices, clinical teams, and customer support to resolve incomplete or unclear billing documentation.
4. Claims Management and Denials Oversight:
  • Oversee clean claim release and work closely with the RCM vendor to drive first-pass success.
  • Review denial trends and partner with the RCM vendor to resolve issues and execute appeals, driving improved reimbursement rates.
  • Own process improvement to minimize denials and billing errors.
5. Payment Reconciliation and Financial Reporting:
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of payments received through the RCM partner, with full alignment to our financial systems.
  • Partner with Finance to provide visibility on revenue cycle performance, aged receivables, and revenue recognition.
6. Systems and Workflow Optimization:
  • Lead the integration of billing processes with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring seamless handoff of billing triggers and sample flow data.
  • Build worklists, dashboards, and escalation paths that keep billing operations visible and trackable.
  • Champion process automation and operational improvements to help Cyted scale cleanly and efficiently.
How we work
At Cyted, how we work is as important as what we work on. Our values guide how we lead, collaborate, and deliver, and as Billing Director, you’ll be expected to model them every day.

We care deeply about the patients and partners we serve, and about the colleagues we work alongside. In this role, care means building billing systems that are seamless, respectful, and grounded in a genuine understanding of the impact they have. You’ll approach challenges with empathy and operate with a customer-first mindset, because every process you improve contributes to better patient outcomes.

We expect you to own your function with confidence and accountability. You’ll be responsible for shaping and driving Cyted’s entire billing infrastructure, from hands-on workflows to strategic oversight. When something needs to happen, you make sure it gets done. You’ll reflect on outcomes, seek feedback often, and continuously improve how we operate.

We aim high. Cyted is growing fast, and our billing systems need to not just keep up, they need to lead. You’ll be trusted to set ambitious goals, raise the bar, and think creatively about how to move from good to great. Curiosity, high standards, and a relentless pursuit of better are not optional, they’re how we scale.

You’ll be expected to dive deep into both the detail and the purpose of your work. Nothing is too operational or too strategic for your attention. You’ll need a deep, practical understanding of lab billing, payer dynamics, and the technical nuance that drives claims success. You won’t just ask “what”, you’ll understand the “why” behind it, and teach others to do the same.

We encourage everyone to challenge and commit. You’ll have the space to speak openly, question assumptions, and push for better, but once a path is chosen, you’ll own it fully. Silent disagreement has no place here. You’ll operate with clarity, conviction, and commitment to shared goals.

And most of all, we deliver. Our success depends on execution. In this role, that means designing workflows that work, getting claims processed, driving results with our RCM partner, and creating visibility across the business. You’ll focus on what matters, act with urgency, and make measurable progress every day.

This is how we work at Cyted, and if this sounds like the environment where you’ll do your best work, we’d love to speak with you.
